X.400

What is an X.400?

X.400 is a standard definition of data communication for messages used for email. During its creation, its designer thought it would become the global standard for email. However, it was overtaken by the SMTP standard for email communication.

Even though it is not the primary form of email communication, it is still used in some organizations and software including Microsoft Exchange Server.

An X.400 address consists of several elements about a partner, such as: C (Country name); ADMD (Administration Management Domain); PRMD (Private Management Domain); O (Organization Name); OU (Organization Unit Names); G (Given name); I (Initials); and S (Surname).

Babelway and X.400

Because of its use in certain systems, including Microsoft Exchange Server, Babelway grants users the functionality of X.400 receipt and delivery of files. This ensures the ability to build data flows for B2B integration needs that rely on the X.400 standard of file communication.

Getting started with Babelway

1. Your X.400 address is displayed

2. Communicate it to your partner

3. You're ready to go!

You just have to enter your partner’s information for the X.400 connection to be setup. If you don’t have all of these details, alternatively, you can enter the address manually.
