REST API Client

What is a REST API Client?

The Rest API allows third-party software developers to access Babelway data (catalog entries, user’s channels, user’s tickets, user’s messages) and integrate them into their own application.

Software developers can easily interact directly with Babelway from within your application. The API is based on the REST protocol, using the JSON and XML formats.

Getting started with Babelway

Frequently asked questions

What is a REST API?

A REST API (Representational State Transfer API) is a web service interface that uses standard HTTP methods (GET, POST, PUT, DELETE) to exchange data between systems. REST APIs are the standard integration method for modern ERPs, accounting platforms, and e-commerce systems.

How does Babelway connect to REST APIs?

Babelway's REST API client gateway lets you configure HTTP endpoints with custom headers, authentication (API key, OAuth 2.0, Basic Auth), request body formats, and response parsing rules. You can poll an API for inbound data or trigger POST requests for outbound documents.

What authentication methods does the Babelway REST API client support?

Babelway supports API key authentication, HTTP Basic Auth, and OAuth 2.0 (including automatic token refresh) for REST API connections. This covers the vast majority of modern REST API authentication schemes without custom code.

Can Babelway convert EDI or XML data to JSON for a REST API?

Yes. Babelway can convert any input format — EDI X12, EDIFACT, XML, flat files — into the JSON structure expected by a target REST API. This bridges legacy EDI systems with modern API-first platforms.
