What is an SAP RFC?
SAP is a common ERP platform. It is very large and complex and has very many uses to an enterprise business. An RFC stands for Remote Function Call and is the primary way that SAP communicates with external systems. RFCs can also be created between two SAP systems.
Enabling an RFC connection with a system allows that system to access data within the ERP, both pulling information as designated or updating SAP database tables. There are many uses for RFCs and their configuration largely depends on the data the external systems need access.
SAP RFC Connection with Babelway
Babelway has created a specific gateway for establishing an RFC with an SAP system. There are configurations necessary both within Babelway and within the target SAP system, but we have set it up so that the process is as simple as possible for all parties involved. Once enabled, the gateway allows Babelway to send and receive IDOC files with the SAP system based on the configuration. Depending on the use, this gateway may need access to different tables of information to support the IDOC exchange.
Getting started with Babelway
1. Make sure RFC configuration is complete in SAP
2. Fill in required fields on Babelway SAP setup page
3. You're good to go!
Once the RFC configuration is completed in SAP, the Babelway side is relatively simple. It just requires information about the SAP server and a user that has access to the needed data. Then it connects via the unique RFC created for Babelway.
