What is RosettaNet?
RosettaNet is a consortium of major Computer and Consumer Electronics, Electronic Components, Semi-conductor Manufacturing, Telecommunications and Logistics companies working to create and implement industry-wide, open e-business process standards. The RosettaNet standard is based on XML and defines message guidelines, interfaces for business processes and implementation frameworks for interactions between companies. The supply chain area is mostly addressed, but manufacturing, product and material data and service processes are also in scope.
It also has a unique protocol to communicate these standard files. It is a special network connection that users of RosettaNet files can leverage to send files back and forth. Setup and communication is handled by URLs that are set to unique enabled locations.
RosettaNet Standard
In other words, RosettaNet is a standard used to ease B2B transactions and it is widely used in the IT industry as everyone knows and uses the same standard, they can define the same product the same way.
It’s unique characteristic is that it standardizes both the message format and the connection protocol. In order to support it, you need a system that can facilitate communication along the RosettaNet network that is in the file format adhering to standards.
