What is HTTP?

HTTP stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol and it is the foundation of communication for the world wide web. Companies can leverage HTTP protocol connections to communicate with their business partners, beyond just accessing a website. For B2B integration purposes, HTTP servers and clients are a means to send and receive files securely of the internet.

The basics of an HTTP connection consist of a server, like an FTP, and user credentials to access information made available to that user. This ensures that files are transferred securely and to the right user. Each attempt to pull or post data to the HTTP server will result in a certain return code, notifying the users of the success or failure of the attempt.

What does it take to setup HTTP Connection?

Setting up an HTTP connection can be easy or complex depending on the requirements of the server and software used to host. Much like an FTP, configure an HTTP server involves software that designates certain files or folders that are available to users that can connect to the HTTP service and download files. Alternatively, connecting to an HTTP server requires information about the URL and a username/password to access. Once on the server, a user can post or pull files to the receiving server.

Here is how the setup looks in Babelway

In Babelway, you can setup an HTTP server with a click of a button. Just define a partner’s credentials and Babelway will do the rest. Once the server is deployed, you can share this information with your partner for them to push files too.
