SOLUTION > CONNECTIVITY

Babelway supports multiple communication protocols (called gateways within Babelway):

  • AS2 (Applicability Statement 2) is a specification about how to transport data securely and reliably over the Internet. Security is achieved by using digital certificates and encryption. Babelway fully supports the AS2 (Applicability Statement 2) protocol widely used in the distribution sector. Preconfigured AS2 connections to trading partners are available in the catalogue.
  • FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is a standard network protocol used to exchange and manipulate files over a TCP/IP based network, such as the Internet. Babelway supports FTP connection for incoming and outgoing messages. The FTP connection can be client (Babelway connects to a distant FTP server) or server (the messages are stored on a FTP server within Babelway and the external system reads or writes on the Babelway server). FTP connection can be secured with SSL (FTPs).
  • SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) is an Internet standard for electronic mail (e-mail) transmission across Internet Protocol (IP) networks. The e-mail gateway can be client (Babelway fetches or sends emails to an external SMTP server) or server (the e-mail waits on Babelway SMTP server to be fetched by an external system).
  • HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) is an application-level protocol for distributed, collaborative, hypermedia information systems. HTTP is a request/response standard as is typical in client-server computing. The client is an application (e.g. web browser, spider etc) on the computer used by an end-user, the server is an application running on the computer hosting the web site. The client—which submits HTTP requests—is also referred to as the user agent. The responding server—which stores or creates resources such as HTML files and images—may be called the origin server.
  • SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) is a protocol for exchanging structured information through web services and XML. From Babelway, it is possible to use SOAP to invoke web services.
  • X.400 or VAN (Value-added Network): X.400 a widely implemented protocol for EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) services. Babelway supports transfer to and from X.400 networks or value-added EDI networks though interconnect agreements to these networks. This protocol differs from all others in the sense that Internet is not the underlying network. The network originally belonged to national PTT and is now the proprety of private companies (eg. GXS, Isabel, Atlas, AT&T, etc.)

Babelway is a true multi-tenant ‘Software-as-a-Service’ (SaaS).
This means you control your own individual environment, in full flexibility and autonomy, without the need to buy and maintain any software or infrastructure.

Powered by the ‘cloud’: quickly up and running, lower costs, more scalable, more secure, more reliable, automatic upgrades. And a monthly subscription instead of capital investments.
