13/11/2008 : Babelway 2.0 : Publicly available
Dear Babelway friends and supporters,
It was only a year ago that we announced the launch of Babelway 1.0 the first EDI Software-as-a-Service. Today, we are happy to release Babelway 2.0. This vastly improved version includes support for multiple data formats and protocols as well as important infrastructure features to guarantee our service levels. Babelway 2.0 is now also publicly available from our website.

We believe this is an important milestone in our goal to simplify the use of EDI for all companies. We have called this release ‘2.0 public beta’ with a hint of caution. We are very well aware that additional, namely ergonomic, improvements will be required so that everyone can be totally comfortable with EDI in SaaS. These ‘expectation management’ thoughts aside, Babelway 2.0 is operational, it is secure and it works TODAY for multiple customers and for critical data exchange processes which already represent over 100,000 messages. Joining as a customer today means that you’ll be able to drive future developments based on your experience to maximize the benefits for your business.
While we’re on the subject of future developments, we would also like to announce our work in the field of legally-compliant e-invoicing and e-archiving. We carried out a project with Prof. Dumortier (KUL) and Prof. Quisquater (UCL), internationally recognised experts in electronic signature regulation and cryptography respectively, to qualify Babelway as compliant with relevant EU regulations. The project resulted in confirming the ‘legality’ of using Babelway to make invoicing a paper-free process. We are now developing new functions, specifically enabling the support of advanced signatures and making long-term archiving possible, both of which we intend to release in the coming weeks and months.
Our raison d’être
Babelway offers total flexibility. Customers have full control over the way they connect with ANY trading partner and it costs them a fraction of the price of alternatives such as in-house EDI software or B2B intermediaries. This is the real ‘raison d’être’ of EDI in SaaS with Babelway. Our current customers already understand where the future of EDI lies, and we are hoping to convince the rest of the industry in the not-so-distant future.
